Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto.
Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper,
et in saecula saeculorum. Amen.

Why do the words change?
Look at the word for Father in the two prayers:
- Patris = of the Father (Sign of the Cross)
- Patri = to the Father (Glory Be)
In English we add little words like of and to. Latin changes the ending of the word instead. These endings are called cases, and they’re the biggest idea in Latin. We’ll build on this in the next lessons.
Homework
- Learn both prayers by heart.
- Find the words for Son and Spirit in each prayer. How do their endings change?
